KOSPI Closes at Record 7,981.41, Putting 8,000 in Sight

The KOSPI ended May 14, 2026, at 7,981.41, up 137.40 points, or 1.75%, from the previous session, setting a record closing high for a second consecutive day. The index briefly turned lower during the session on U.S. inflation concerns, but bargain buying helped it reverse higher. In the main market, retail investors bought a net 1.835 trillion won and institutions bought 193 billion won, while foreigners sold a net 2.144 trillion won. Samsung Electronics closed up 4.23% at 296,000 won, while SK Hynix fell 0.30% to 1.97 million won. The KOSDAQ also gained 1.20% to finish at 1,191.09.
